Welcome to the TMR and thankyou for your interest!

The Timbertown Miniature Railway operates a 5 and 7-1/4 inch gauge miniature railway. We also have members with interests in Traction Engines, Garden Railways and HO gauge and of course, Model Engineering! You do not have to be building anything to be a member – just a healthy interest in the hobby! Should you wish to join the society you will be required to fill in an application form for membership and also sign a declaration in regards to the NSW Child Protection Act of 1998, this being a government mandatory Prohibited Employment form. The Secretary of the Society has these forms.

Society running days are the first Sunday of the month, with the day being a combined meeting day (normally held at 10am) and a running day. We also play trains on other days - special occasions such as a birthday party hire, etc. All work and activities on the Railway are by way of volunteer labour. We also try and run on other days such as during the school holidays where practical. The society’s A.G.M is held in August each year. We cordially invite you to become involved in something great!

The TMRMES is affiliated with the Australian Association of Live Steamers and all operations must conform to the operational guidelines. Likewise our members are expected to maintain a professional, courteous manner when dealing with the public. All drivers and operations members are suitably accredited and we can certainly assist you in gaining any required accreditation for any particular area of interest you may have. Members are required to assist the society in the running and maintenance of the miniature railway and the construction of new facilities.

All society activities are covered by our constitution of which you will be given a copy of after paying your joining fee. The TMRMES is an incorporated body under the fair trading act and the executive of the society comprises of (1) President, (1) Secretary, (1) Vice President and (1) Treasurer. In addition the society has an AMBSC affiliated boiler inspector, 2 driver inspectors, safety officer and a competent person.

JOINING THE TMR

To join the TMR, prospective members are expected to attend club meetings/ running days and working bees prior to submitting an application for membership, which will be presented to the executive for review. We currently have 3 levels of membership – Full Member, Life member and junior member. Full member – This is the normal class of membership and also includes family membership. Junior Members – members who are under the age of 18 or attending school.

LOCOMOTIVE & TRACTION ENGINE CONSTRUCTORS

As the TMR is operated under the auspices of the AALS and AMBSC certain guidelines for the construction of locomotives, (in particular steam) must be adhered to during construction. For locomotives, drawings for wheel and gauge profiles are available from the secretary. Advice should also be sort from the club boiler inspector in regards to suitable methods of construction and materials for locomotive and traction engine boilers. No steam locomotive may be operated on the TMR without a current AMBSC boiler certificate.

Any further enquiries concerning membership should be directed to the society’s secretary.
